Logiciels/Connaissances

Voici la liste des logiciels que je maitrise et que j’utilise régulièrement :

3D:

  • ZBrush 3.12B, which is my sculpting software of choice. It allows me to do rough sculpting for concept design, but also advance sculpting and accurate details, with a lot of different ways, far from other products available on the market.
  • Modo 302, which is now my main rendering engine. I’m still not really confident with the modeler as the workflow is really weird. But I decided to invest in this software as it will become, I hope, a good alternative to 3DSMax for still images and soon, simple animation.
  • Hexagon 2/Amapi8, which are my main polygonal modeling software, and Amapi a little bit for NURBS. These software will be dead sooner or later as no more developers are working on it. That’s why I also switch to modo.
  • Quidam 3, a not enough well known software, which is a very good solution to validate a pose or as an assistant to draw. Times to times, I use Poser 7 for similar usage.
  • 3DSMax 2009, which is still a software I use time to time (license of the company). I like a lot 3DSMax, but I can’t afford the license by myself. Going back to modo for the price :)

2D:

  • Photoshop, as you may guess! I own CS2.3, I want to upgrade to CS4, but the price of the upgrade in europe is stopping me.
  • OpenCanvas, like Quidam, a software which should be more well known. It’s a very good 2D software for illustration!
  • Flash, but only for work purpose (and I stop mastering it)! I did too much flash in a compan a long time ago! Anyway, I should go back to it for 2D animation purpose!
  • Manga Studio 4 EX, which is a crazy software for comics and manga. It  has a very rich feature set and advances features that you can’t find in software like Photoshop. It’s a very professional solution!
  • Indesign CS3, which is a very good software for writing the documentation. I have bad memories of Page Maker…

Web:

  • Dreamweaver is my favorite tool. I do only simple development since I now prefer using CMS or blog software. Why inventing again the wheel? But I continue tweaking code, CSS and stuff like that!
  • Servers… my nightmares.. I’m always praying for no hard drive crash, hacking and others. It’s great to have a dedicated server, you do what you want, but damn, so much stress! And I manage two servers…

Hardware & OS:

  • PC: well, like almost everybody. Building them, installing them, etc. Win XP, Vista and all these « funny » things.
  • Mac: just owning one, but I think more and more of only owning just Macs and no more PCs. Except the lack of 3DSMax and Open Canvas on it
  • Linux: Ubunto and Gentoo, but for server purpose. Except becoming masochist, I don’t see why I would switch to Linux. But I have been impressed by Ubuntu. I would think about it just for a web console (surfing, emailing) for my kids later :)
  • Pen tablet, hey, Wacom, nothing else. I own a Cintiq 12″ and an Intuos 4, and I’m an official Wacom Expert. I love their products, I wouldn’t be able to live without them!

Misc:

I may not mastering them, but I have good knowledges in other softwares like Combustion, After Effect, Premiere and soo many others that I can’t list them. I spend too much time behind my computers. It’s not my who say that, it’s my wife :)

    Hi Thomas,
Great to see your loving confirmation about Wacom products.
I am pretty sure that this should be a great advantage for your 2D+3D usage.
Take care and All the best for your new blog.
