Digital Sculpting – human anatomy

September 2nd, 2010 Thomas 1 comment

This post is mainly for the french readers (who have to read the french version of this post), to announce the french availability of the Scott Spencer’s Digital Sculpting – Human Anatomy book.

If you don’t own it and you are looking for a better knowledge of how to improve your human character sculpting, it’s a real mistake! This is a book that you -must- own!

I saw some negative feedback that it’s not using ZBrush 4 features and almost no ZBrush 3.5 features. Yes, that’s true, but to be honest, it’s not a miss as Scott is focusing on the main sculpting an anatomy concepts and knowledge. ZBrush is just a tool, which mean that 95% of the content can be use by any other sculpting software… even if ZBrush is strongly advised :)

Interviewed about the 3D printing!

July 10th, 2010 Thomas 2 comments

During the Japan Expo tradeshow, I’ve been interviewed by Clubic, one of the main websited in france dedicated to technology. The subject was the 3D printing, from virtual to real. Then if you want to see what i’m look like, just click on the image below. Sorry, it’s all in french!

Interview de Clubic sur l'impression 3D et ZBrush

I’ve been a little bit disapointed by the intervew as I expected more about what I said about ZBrush and the sculpting part. They only kept what I said about the 3D printing aspect. But well, I won’t complain for a free advert in such website! :)

I hope the next one will be more focused on ZBrush!

LiuLin close to be done

June 22nd, 2010 Thomas 3 comments

This is an -old- model which was done on the sculpting side, but which never had a painting (well, I did a crappy one some time ago).

Because of the Japan Expo tradeshow which will be in a week, I had to do the colored version for 3D printing purpose. Then, after a night, it’s done.

It took me more time than expected as the model had his pose and the ZBrush posable symmetry wasn’t able to work on some parts as it was not topologically symmetrical. The model is also 23 millions of polygons, then I had some slowdowns. Now, let’s wait the 3D printed one!

Some news

June 5th, 2010 Thomas 3 comments

I’m sorry from the lack of new posts these last days, but I’m pretty busy in terms of work and I have a very hard time to find the way to do something than working or being with my family… when I can…

I think everything will be back to what it was before in approximately a month.. I have several reviews to publish, articles, but I don’t have the time to finish them…

The only exception will be a covering of the MIFA tradeshow where I’ll be this next week with Wacom on their booth doing ZBrush demonstrations :)

UV Master for ZBrush released!

February 24th, 2010 Thomas No comments

We just released a new free plugin for ZBrush today: UV Master. yes, again a free one and we hope it will help all the artist by removing one of the most complex task in the 3D production: the UVs creation.

UV Master is originally a one click button plugin to make the UV creation accessible for all the “humans” (and not for the “Aliens” :) ) and which producing a result understandable in a 2D editor like Photoshop, if you need to tweak or paint manually your texture in 2D.

We also add to this easy step an optional one, which name is “Control Painting”: paint areas on your model where you want to attract the UV seams created by the plugin or paint areas where you don’t want to have seams (like the face of your character). It’s just painting areas, not accurate seam. The purpose is to quickly paint these areas in few strokes!

This control painting also include a Density mode which, still through painted strokes, can change the local density of the UVs and then, allowing more or less pixels density for your textures.

I hope that you will enjoy this plugin, your feedback is welcome!

Happy New Year 2010!

January 4th, 2010 Thomas 2 comments

Happy New year to all of you and all my wishes for these next 365 days!

This is a “steampunk style” compositing I did quickly yesterday night, based on a panoramic photo I did of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, on the first January (yes, I was on the top of it, with my family :)

Sorry, it’s not the best image ever made :p

ZBrush 3.5 R3

ZBrush 3.5 R3 is now available for all the ZBrush registered users.. or for the new ZBrush customers!

This R3 is not just a bug fix release, but add several new features and enhancements which brings the sculpting software to a new level, especially in the hard sculpting field, making this R3 what should have been (IMHO) ZBrush 4.5 while ZBrush 3.5 should have been ZBrush 4.0 :)

With the 3.5 R3, you will have some nice new additions like:

  • Quicksketch, a 2D sketching plugin, to draw your ideas in a click. Just try it, it’s very addictive!
  • A huge set of new features for the polygroups creations: new groups from polypainting or masks, GroupsLoops to create loops around the polygroups, export polygroups as polypainting, etc…
  • The Remeshing, to create new object based on the combination (or subtractions / intersections) with the visible SubTools. It’s a kind of boolean solution, but to create new basemeshes.
  • Tons of new brushes, included the new h/m/sPolish which will become your new favorite brushes for sure: with a low pressure, it will polish your surface and a high pressure will create hard edges on the border of the stroke, while protecting the surface angle. A real joy :)
  • Various new additions on the brush settings: stabilization of the brush, angle masking, brush tilting, etc….

Just check the new ZBrush 3.5 webpages on Pixologic.com for a new feature overview, view the presentation video on these same pages and don’t forget the ZBrush 3.5 car design tutorial by Pixolator himself :)

Don’t forget that ZBrush 3.5 R3 is a free update for all the ZBrush customers. Which others company do that?
